What does Mark 12:23 mean?

The Sadducees posed this question to trap Jesus, using an extreme scenario about a woman married to seven brothers in succession (following a Jewish practice meant to preserve a family line). They were essentially asking: if resurrection is real, whose wife will she be in heaven, since she was married to all seven? They thought the absurdity of the answer would disprove the resurrection altogether. What makes this moment important is Jesus's response, which we see in the next verses. Rather than getting caught in their logical puzzle, he points out that they fundamentally misunderstand what resurrection life is like. In heaven, people don't marry as they do on earth, so the whole premise of the question dissolves. Jesus takes their attempt to mock him and uses it to teach something deeper about God's nature and the future hope of believers.
