What does Mark 11:9 mean?
This moment captures the crowds welcoming Jesus into Jerusalem, just days before his crucifixion. "Hosanna" literally means "save us" or "save now," and the people are greeting him as a hoped-for deliverer, mixing genuine spiritual longing with political expectation. They're calling him blessed because he comes representing God's authority and presence, which is why Matthew's version adds "in the highest" to the praise. It's a beautiful picture of people reaching toward hope, even though most don't yet grasp what kind of salvation Jesus actually came to bring, or what would happen within the week.
