Mark 10:41
βWhen the ten heard it, they began to be indignant towards James and John.β
What does Mark 10:41 mean?
The other disciples are upset because James and John just asked Jesus for the best seats in his coming kingdom, wanting honor and power for themselves. Their request stirred jealousy and frustration among the group, who felt these two were trying to get ahead. Jesus uses this moment to teach everyone (and us) that greatness in God's kingdom works the opposite way we expect: it comes through humble service to others, not through seeking position or privilege. The indignation itself shows how easily our competitive nature rises up, making it a very human moment that invites reflection on our own desires and motives.
