What does Luke 9:46 mean?

The disciples had just witnessed Jesus perform incredible miracles, and instead of deepening their faith, they got caught up in a petty competition. It's a painfully honest moment in the Gospels, showing that even people closest to Jesus struggled with ego and the desire to be important. Jesus didn't shame them for it, but he did respond by placing a child beside him and explaining that true greatness in God's kingdom looks nothing like worldly status, power, or recognition. This conversation invites us to examine our own hearts: where do we seek validation, and are we measuring ourselves by the world's standards or by what Jesus actually values?
