Luke 9:26
“For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed, when he comes in his glory, and the glory of the Father, and of the holy angels.”
What does Luke 9:26 mean?
Jesus is describing a serious consequence for those who distance themselves from him out of fear or shame, especially in front of others. When he returns in his full power and glory, he says he will respond in kind to those who tried to hide or deny their connection to him. This doesn't mean you need to be perfect at witnessing or never stumble in your faith. Rather, it speaks to the direction of your heart: are you genuinely trying to follow Jesus, or are you actively rejecting him to fit in or avoid trouble? The warning is really about a hardened stance of rejection, not about moments when we feel weak or silent. For anyone struggling with fear of what others might think, this verse also offers an inverse comfort: if you do stand by Jesus, even when it costs you socially, he stands by you.
