Luke 7:28
““For I tell you, among those who are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptizer, yet he who is least in God’s Kingdom is greater than he.””
What does Luke 7:28 mean?
Jesus is saying something stunning here about how the Kingdom of God transforms everything we thought we knew about greatness. John the Baptist was the forerunner who prepared the way, faithfully pointing people toward Jesus, and he was the greatest prophet who ever lived under the old covenant. But once Jesus opened the door to God's Kingdom, even the humblest believer who enters it through faith experiences something John, living before the resurrection, could not fully access: direct relationship with God and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. It's not a put-down of John, but rather Jesus celebrating how radically things have changed now that he's come. The least among us, when we're part of God's Kingdom, have access to grace and intimacy with God that surpasses what was possible before.
