Luke 6:45
“The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings out that which is good, and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings out that which is evil, for out of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks.”
What does Luke 6:45 mean?
What flows out of us in our words and actions comes from what we're storing up inside. If our heart is filled with kindness, wisdom, and love, that's what will naturally emerge in how we treat others and what we say. By contrast, if we're nursing bitterness, selfishness, or anger, those are what will spill out when life squeezes us. Jesus isn't saying this to shame us, but to invite us to pay attention to what we're actually feeding our hearts. We can't simply white-knuckle our way to better speech or behavior; transformation happens when we tend to what's growing inside us—through prayer, community, time with Scripture, or whatever helps us keep our hearts oriented toward what's true and good. Your words aren't separate from who you're becoming; they're a window into it.
