What does Luke 6:3 mean?
Jesus is responding to criticism about his disciples picking grain on the Sabbath by pointing to an example from Scripture they should already know. He's essentially saying, "Look, even your own holy writings show that hunger sometimes takes priority over strict rules." By invoking David (a king they deeply respected), Jesus is suggesting that necessity and compassion matter, and that God's law was never meant to be applied so rigidly that it causes suffering. This is a gentle but firm reminder that rules exist to serve people, not the other way around.
