What does Luke 6:2 mean?
The Pharisees were pointing out that Jesus's disciples were picking grain on the Sabbath, which Jewish law forbade as a form of work. This wasn't petty nitpicking but rather a genuine concern within their framework: the Sabbath was sacred, a day of complete rest meant to honor God and remember his creation. What the Pharisees didn't see was that Jesus was more concerned with human need and mercy than with rule-keeping. This tension between following rules perfectly and responding with compassion to real people runs through Jesus's entire ministry and invites us to think about where our own priorities lie.
