What does Luke 6:4 mean?
Jesus is recalling a story about King David from the Old Testament, when David was hungry and fleeing from danger. David entered the temple and ate the sacred bread that was meant only for priests, and he shared it with the people traveling with him. Jesus uses this example to make a point: sometimes human need matters more than strict religious rules. He's defending his disciples, who were picking grain on the Sabbath (which broke Jewish law), by showing that God cares more about people eating when they're hungry than about ceremonial regulations. The deeper message is that compassion and caring for real people should guide us more than rigid rule-following, especially when those rules didn't exist to cause hardship.
