Luke 24:13
“Behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was sixty stadia from Jerusalem.”
What does Luke 24:13 mean?
On the day of resurrection, two followers of Jesus were walking away from Jerusalem toward a small village called Emmaus, about seven miles away. They were leaving the city where everything had fallen apart, probably confused and grieving after witnessing Jesus's crucifixion. This simple detail about their journey matters because they were walking *away* from where the most important thing was about to be revealed to them. Sometimes when we're heartbroken or confused, we distance ourselves from the very place where God's comfort is waiting, and Luke's account shows us how Jesus meets us even in our retreat.
