What does Luke 24:12 mean?
Peter's response here captures something very human. After Jesus' arrest and crucifixion, Peter is grieving and probably afraid. When he hears the women's report about the empty tomb, he can't sit still, he has to see for himself. What he finds is deeply puzzling: the linen cloths that had wrapped Jesus' body are there, but Jesus is gone. Notice that Peter doesn't immediately understand what this means. He leaves confused and wondering rather than suddenly confident. That's honest. The resurrection wasn't immediately obvious even to those closest to Jesus, it was something they had to gradually come to understand and believe. If you're struggling to make sense of faith or feeling uncertain about God right now, Peter's confusion might feel familiar and real, not like a failure. Sometimes wonder and questioning are where faith actually begins.
