What does Luke 20:34 mean?

Jesus is describing how life works in our current world, where people naturally marry and build families. He's setting up a contrast, because the next verses go on to explain that resurrection life will be fundamentally different, without marriage or death. What he's saying here is simply factual and not critical, like saying "in this life, people eat and sleep." He's acknowledging the ordinary rhythms of earthly existence so his listeners can understand just how radically transformed everything becomes in God's kingdom.
