What does Luke 20:33 mean?

The Sadducees are asking Jesus a trick question designed to make the idea of resurrection seem absurd. They've just described a situation where a woman was married to seven brothers in succession (following the Jewish custom of levirate marriage), and now they're asking: when everyone rises from the dead, whose wife will she actually be? Behind this question is the Sadducees' deeper skepticism about resurrection itself. They didn't believe in life after death, so they're trying to use this logical puzzle to prove that resurrection creates impossible situations. But Jesus will turn this around by showing that their whole framework misses how different the resurrected life actually is. The answer isn't about figuring out marriage claims, but recognizing that resurrection transforms existence in ways our earthly categories can't fully capture.
