What does Luke 18:24 mean?

When Jesus saw the wealthy man walk away grieving because he couldn't give up his possessions, he spoke these words not as condemnation but as compassionate observation. Jesus is describing a real human struggle: when we're accustomed to controlling our security through money and status, it becomes incredibly difficult to trust God completely. The kingdom of God requires a kind of surrender and dependence that feels terrifying when we've built our identity around what we own. This isn't saying rich people can't follow Jesus, but rather that wealth creates particular spiritual obstacles, since it can convince us we don't need to rely on anyone but ourselves.
