What does Luke 18:25 mean?

Jesus uses an impossible image, a camel squeezing through a needle's eye, to show how hard it is for wealthy people to enter God's kingdom. He's not saying rich people are automatically excluded, but rather that wealth often becomes a barrier because it can make us feel self-sufficient and less aware of our need for God. The saying would have shocked his listeners because in that culture, wealth was often seen as a sign of God's favor, so this turned their assumptions upside down. What matters most to God isn't how much we own, but whether our hearts are actually open to him and willing to let go of what we cling to most.
