What does Luke 17:25 mean?

Jesus is telling his followers something hard to hear: before his ultimate victory and return, he would face terrible suffering and rejection from the very people he came to save. This wasn't a surprise twist or a failure, but part of God's purpose all along. When we're walking through our own rejection or pain, this verse reminds us that suffering isn't outside God's plan or evidence that something's gone wrong, but sometimes the very path that leads to redemption and hope.
