“They will tell you, ‘Look, here!’ or ‘Look, there!’ Don’t go away, nor follow after them,”
What does Luke 17:23 mean?
Jesus is warning his followers not to be drawn away by false claims about where he is or what's happening in the world. People will point to various places or movements claiming "the Messiah is here" or "salvation is there," but Jesus is telling his disciples to stay put and not get caught up chasing after these distractions. This warning speaks to something deeply human: our tendency to look outward for rescue or answers, especially when we're anxious or uncertain about the future. Jesus invites us instead to trust what we've already been given and where we already stand. Rather than running after the next promise or the next person claiming to have all the answers, we're invited to remain grounded in what's true and real right in front of us.
