“When he saw them, he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” As they went, they were cleansed.”
What does Luke 17:14 mean?
Jesus is speaking to ten people with leprosy, a devastating disease that isolated sufferers from their families and community. In Jewish law, only a priest could officially declare someone healed and allow them back into normal life. What's remarkable here is that Jesus tells them to go show themselves to the priests before they're actually healed—and then, while they're walking to obey him, the healing happens. It's an invitation to take a step of trust even when the evidence isn't yet visible. Sometimes faithfulness means moving toward restoration before we can feel it, and the healing follows our willingness to believe and obey.
