What does Luke 16:3 mean?
The manager in Jesus's parable faces a crisis, and his words reveal something deeply human about shame and survival. He's being fired and suddenly realizes he has limited options: he's not physically strong enough for manual labor, and begging feels beneath him. What makes this moment instructive isn't his desperation itself, but that it forces him to confront what he actually values and what he's willing to do. Jesus tells this story to show how people often act more shrewdly about their physical security than their spiritual security. The manager's willingness to scheme and compromise (which we see in the verses that follow) stems from taking his future seriously, even if his methods are crooked.
