Luke 12:56
“You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky, but how is it that you don’t interpret this time?”
What does Luke 12:56 mean?
Jesus is calling out people who pride themselves on reading the physical world around them, yet somehow miss what's happening right in front of them spiritually. They can look at the sky and predict rain, or check the earth's conditions and forecast the harvest, but they can't recognize the significance of Jesus' presence and teaching in their own moment. He's pointing to a gap between their practical wisdom and their spiritual blindness, asking how it's possible to be so observant about one thing and so oblivious about another. It's a gentle but sharp question that invites us to examine what we're really paying attention to in our own lives right now.
