Luke 11:19
“But if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore will they be your judges.”
What does Luke 11:19 mean?
Jesus is responding to people who accused him of casting out demons through evil power. He uses their own logic against them: if his critics believe their own followers can cast out demons, then those followers must have some legitimate spiritual authority, not demonic power. By that same reasoning, why would Jesus' power be any different or darker than theirs? The point is disarmingly simple. Jesus is saying their accusation doesn't hold up when you apply it fairly to everyone doing this work. He's essentially asking them to look at themselves honestly and recognize the double standard. There's a quiet challenge here for all of us: we often judge others harshly while overlooking the same things in people close to us.
