Luke 10:24

for I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see the things which you see, and didn’t see them, and to hear the things which you hear, and didn’t hear them.”

What does Luke 10:24 mean?

Jesus is telling his disciples something remarkable about their position in history. He's saying that even the great figures of the Old Testament, people with enormous faith and authority, longed to witness what the disciples were seeing in real time: Jesus teaching, healing the sick, and demonstrating God's kingdom in action. Those prophets and kings had to trust God's promises from a distance, but the disciples got to experience the fulfillment of those promises directly. It's a gentle reminder that being present with Jesus, even in ordinary moments, is an extraordinary privilege that faithful people throughout history would have treasured.
