What does Luke 1:7 mean?
Zechariah and Elizabeth had longed for a child their entire lives but never had one, partly because Elizabeth couldn't conceive and partly because they were now too old by natural standards for this to happen. This detail sets up the shock of what comes next in their story: God is about to do something that seems impossible by every measure. Their barrenness wasn't a punishment or a lack of faith, but rather the setup for a miracle that would show God's power and faithfulness in the most unexpected way.
