What does Judges 9:15 mean?
In this dark parable, a worthless bramble (a thorny shrub) offers itself as king to the other trees, promising protection while threatening destruction if rejected. The bramble represents Abimelech, a power-hungry man who's just murdered his own brothers to seize leadership in Israel, while the trees represent the people of Shechem who supported him. The message is painfully honest: if you choose a leader out of desperation or compromise your values, you'll get exactly what you deserve—someone who offers nothing real and rules through fear and threat.
