Judges 2:5
“They called the name of that place Bochim, and they sacrificed there to Yahweh.”
What does Judges 2:5 mean?
The Israelites had just been confronted by God's messenger about breaking their covenant promises, and the weight of it moved them to tears. "Bochim" literally means "weeping," so they named the place after their sorrow and grief. In that moment of genuine remorse, they turned toward God with sacrifice, which was their way of expressing repentance and seeking to restore their relationship with him. There's something honest and hopeful in this scene. The people didn't pretend their failure didn't matter or run away from God. Instead, they wept, they acknowledged what they'd done wrong, and they made an offering. Sometimes our hardest moments of reckoning with God become the places where we meet him most truly.
