Joshua 23:2
“Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders and for their heads, and for their judges and for their officers, and said to them, “I am old and well advanced in years.”
What does Joshua 23:2 mean?
Joshua has gathered the leadership of Israel, and he's being honest about where he is in life. He's aging and knows his time is limited, so he's calling everyone together to pass on what matters most. This moment of vulnerability from a leader wasn't unusual in ancient cultures, but what made it meaningful was that Joshua wasn't stepping down in fear or despair, he was making sure the next generation had what they needed to carry on. When someone we respect admits their own mortality, it often opens our ears to listen more carefully to their wisdom.
