What does Joshua 17:12 mean?
When the Israelites entered Canaan, they were supposed to fully inhabit the land God promised them, but Manasseh's tribe found themselves unable or unwilling to completely remove the people already living there. Instead of a clean victory, they ended up sharing space with the Canaanites who refused to leave. This wasn't a complete failure, but it was an incomplete one, and it would create ongoing complications for Manasseh's future, as these neighboring groups with different beliefs and practices would remain their closest neighbors. This moment captures something deeply human: the difficulty of following through on what we know we should do, especially when it requires real effort or uncomfortable confrontation. Sometimes we settle for "good enough" instead of fully embracing what we're called to pursue, and then we live with those compromises for years afterward.
