What does Joshua 17:11 mean?
After the Israelites entered the land, tribes received different territories, and this verse describes several towns that fell within Manasseh's inheritance even though they were geographically surrounded by or near Issachar and Asher's lands. Rather than being a clean geographical puzzle, the tribal boundaries overlapped in practical ways, with Manasseh holding key cities and their surrounding areas. What matters for us is what this reveals about God's distribution of blessing: everyone received something, but not everything was straightforward or equally convenient. Life in a community, whether ancient Israel or modern times, often works this way too. We get our portion, but it requires living alongside others, negotiating shared spaces, and sometimes managing complexity. The promise wasn't that everything would be neatly organized or that one tribe would have it all, but that each would have enough and a place to belong.
