Joshua 14:7
“I was forty years old when Moses the servant of Yahweh sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land. I brought him word again as it was in my heart.”
What does Joshua 14:7 mean?
Caleb is remembering the moment he was chosen as one of twelve spies to scout the promised land, back when he was a young man. Forty years had passed since then, and he's now an elderly man speaking to Joshua, the new leader of Israel. When he says "I brought him word again as it was in my heart," he's saying that he reported honestly about what he saw and gave Moses his true assessment, not what others wanted to hear or what fear might have whispered. This matters because while ten of the twelve spies came back terrified and convinced the people that conquering the land was impossible, Caleb was one of only two who spoke with courage and faith. He's reminding Joshua (and us) that staying true to what you genuinely believe, especially when it goes against the crowd, requires real character. That kind of faithfulness, even when it costs you, is something worth remembering.
