What does John 9:40 mean?
Some Pharisees overhear Jesus explaining to the man he'd just healed that spiritual blindness—refusing to see and accept truth—is the real problem. When Jesus suggests their own blindness, they bristle defensively and ask if he's calling them blind too. Their question drips with indignation, as if the idea is absurd, yet their very reaction proves his point: they're so convinced of their own understanding that they can't recognize what they're missing.
