What does John 7:40 mean?

During the festival in Jerusalem, Jesus had been teaching boldly about his identity and purpose, and his words stirred something in people's hearts. Many in the crowd recognized an authority and truth in what he was saying that reminded them of the ancient prophets they'd learned about, especially the promised prophet some believed would come. Their declaration, "This is truly the prophet," shows how Jesus's teaching was beginning to awaken spiritual recognition in ordinary people, even as the religious leaders remained skeptical. It's a quiet moment that captures something beautiful: sometimes those with the fewest credentials or advantages are the first to see clearly who Jesus is.
