What does John 7:41 mean?
During Jesus's time, there was a widespread belief that the Messiah would come from Bethlehem, the city where King David was born. Galilee, where Jesus was from, seemed like an unlikely place for God's chosen one to originate, and this geographical detail created real doubt in people's minds about whether Jesus could possibly be who he claimed to be. What's striking here is how people's expectations—even well-founded ones based on Scripture—can get in the way of recognizing God's work right in front of them.
