What does John 6:61 mean?
Jesus had just said something that sounded shocking: that people would need to eat his flesh and drink his blood to have life in him. His disciples were confused and upset, whispering among themselves that this teaching was hard to accept. Rather than soften his words or pretend he hadn't noticed their struggle, Jesus directly addresses their doubt and invites them to wrestle with it honestly. The question "Does this cause you to stumble?" isn't confrontational, it's actually an opening. Jesus is acknowledging that faith isn't always easy or comfortable, and he's giving his followers permission to sit with their confusion instead of pretending everything makes sense. There's something tender in the way he notices their hearts before they even speak to him directly.
