John 6:60
“Therefore many of his disciples, when they heard this, said, “This is a hard saying! Who can listen to it?””
What does John 6:60 mean?
Jesus had just told his followers that they needed to eat his flesh and drink his blood to have life in themselves, which was shocking and confusing language to people who didn't yet understand he was speaking spiritually about faith and commitment. Many of his disciples found this teaching so difficult and strange that they couldn't accept it, and some even walked away from following him. This moment shows us that following Jesus isn't always comfortable or easy to understand, and that real faith sometimes requires us to sit with confusion rather than abandoning ship when things don't immediately make sense. It's a gentle reminder that doubt and struggle are part of the spiritual journey, and that we're not alone when we find certain teachings challenging.
