“But I told you that you have seen me, and yet you don’t believe.”
What does John 6:36 mean?
Jesus is expressing frustration at a deep kind of blindness. He's standing right in front of people, doing miracles, speaking truth, and yet they're choosing not to trust him or commit their lives to him. It's not that they lack evidence or haven't encountered him; it's that seeing with your eyes doesn't automatically change your heart. This hits hard for anyone who has wrestled with faith, because it suggests that belief requires more than facts or experiences. Even when Jesus was physically present healing the sick and feeding thousands, some people looked at all of it and decided not to follow. That can feel discouraging, but there's also grace hidden in it: Jesus didn't condemn them for struggling. He named what was happening with honesty, giving them a chance to recognize their own resistance and perhaps move through it.
