John 5:42
“But I know you, that you don’t have God’s love in yourselves.”
What does John 5:42 mean?
Jesus speaks these words to people who were deeply religious, who studied Scripture carefully and thought they honored God. Yet he saw something missing underneath: they didn't actually love God himself. They were going through the motions of faith without the heart connection that makes faith alive. It's a sobering reminder that religious activity can exist without genuine relationship, that we can know *about* God while missing real intimacy with him. If you're feeling distant from faith, or wondering whether your practice is connected to your heart, that honesty itself is often where real love for God begins to grow.
