You don’t have his word living in you; because you don’t believe him whom he sent.

What does John 5:38 mean?

Jesus is pointing out a hard truth: belief isn't just intellectual agreement, but a living reality that shapes how we receive God's message. When we truly trust Jesus as God's messenger, His words take root in us and begin to transform how we think and live. If we find that God's word isn't actually changing us or guiding us, Jesus suggests we might need to honestly examine whether we're truly believing in Him. He's not being cruel here, just clear: genuine faith means letting His message become part of who we are, not just something we know about.
