“I sent you to reap that for which you haven’t labored. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.””
What does John 4:38 mean?
Jesus is reminding his disciples that spiritual harvest doesn't always require you to do all the groundwork yourself. Sometimes you step into work that prophets, faithful teachers, and believers before you have already begun, and you get to see it come to fruition. This is actually encouraging news, not a criticism, because it means you're not starting from scratch. The "labor" of prayer, faithful witness, and years of spiritual foundation-laying by others creates soil ready for growth. There's both humility and grace in recognizing that we build on what came before us, and that our role is simply to be faithful in whatever part of the harvest we're called to gather.
