John 17:22
“The glory which you have given me, I have given to them; that they may be one, even as we are one;”
What does John 17:22 mean?
Jesus is describing something profound about unity that flows from God's own nature. He's saying that the same divine presence and purpose that bind him to God the Father also binds believers together, creating a oneness that goes much deeper than agreement or friendship. When he speaks of sharing God's glory with his followers, he means they're invited into the very life and connection he has with God. This matters especially for people feeling alone or fractured, either in their faith communities or in their inner lives. Jesus suggests that our deepest unity isn't built on having everything figured out the same way, but on being rooted in the same source of life. It's both a comfort (you're not isolated in this) and a calling (to help others experience this same belonging).
