John 17:23
“I in them, and you in me, that they may be perfected into one; that the world may know that you sent me, and loved them, even as you loved me.”
What does John 17:23 mean?
Jesus is describing the deepest kind of unity—one where his presence dwells in his followers, and God's presence dwells in him, creating an unbroken connection. When he speaks of being "perfected into one," he's not talking about becoming identical, but about reaching a kind of wholeness and harmony where believers are bound together by their shared relationship with God. The beautiful part is that Jesus says this unity itself becomes a witness to the world: when people see Christians genuinely loving and standing together across their differences, it becomes evidence that Jesus really was sent by God and that they're loved with the same boundless love the Father has always had for him. It's less about perfection in the sense of flawlessness and more about completeness, maturity, and the kind of belonging that only comes through being rooted in God's love.
