John 17:21
“that they may all be one; even as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that you sent me.”
What does John 17:21 mean?
Jesus is praying here for all his followers, asking God that we might experience the same kind of unity and connection he shares with his Father. He's not talking about sameness or losing our individuality, but rather about being bound together by a shared relationship with God, the way branches on a vine are connected through the same living stem. What makes this prayer remarkable is that he sees our unity as something the world actually notices and responds to, a kind of living proof that points others toward God. When people see Christians loving and standing with one another across their differences, genuinely seeking the good of others, it whispers to those around them that something real is happening here.
