What does John 16:11 mean?

Jesus tells his disciples that the Holy Spirit will convict the world about judgment because Satan, the ruler of earthly powers and human rebellion, has already been defeated and judged by Christ. This wasn't just a future promise, but something already accomplished through Jesus's death and resurrection. When we face spiritual struggles or see evil seemingly triumphant around us, this verse reminds us that the final verdict is already in, and darkness has no ultimate authority over those who follow Jesus. The Spirit's work in our hearts is backed by a judgment that's already been settled.
