What does John 16:10 mean?

Jesus is telling his disciples that the Holy Spirit will convince the world about what true righteousness really is. When Jesus returns to God the Father (after his resurrection and ascension), he'll no longer be physically present to show people what a righteous life looks like. So the Spirit will take over that role, working in people's hearts to help them understand that real righteousness isn't about keeping rules or earning favor, but about trusting in Jesus and living in relationship with God through him. It's a reassuring word for the disciples: even though Jesus is leaving them, God's presence won't disappear. Instead, the Spirit will continue the work of drawing people toward truth and wholeness.
