John 14:18
“I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you.”
What does John 14:18 mean?
Jesus speaks these words to his disciples just before his arrest and crucifixion, when they're understandably frightened about being left behind. An orphan in that time was among the most vulnerable people, lacking protection and provision, which makes his promise especially tender. He's assuring them (and us) that even though he's physically departing, his presence won't truly abandon them—he'll return to them through the Holy Spirit after the resurrection. For anyone who's ever felt spiritually alone or abandoned by God, this verse offers the same comfort: closeness to Jesus isn't dependent on his physical presence, but on a deeper connection that death itself cannot break.
