John 13:33

Little children, I will be with you a little while longer. You will seek me, and as I said to the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you can’t come,’ so now I tell you.

What does John 13:33 mean?

Jesus is preparing his disciples for his imminent death, speaking to them with tender affection as "little children" even though they're grown men. He's gently warning them that his time with them is ending, and they'll experience the pain of searching for him and not finding him in the way they're used to. The words echo what he told the religious authorities earlier, but here they carry a different weight, spoken not in confrontation but in love to those who've devoted themselves to him. What Jesus is really saying is that they cannot follow him into death and resurrection just yet, but this separation won't be permanent or final.
