John 13:15
βFor I have given you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you.β
What does John 13:15 mean?
Jesus had just finished washing his disciples' feet, an act of humble service that shocked them because foot-washing was considered the job of the lowest servant. By doing this himself, he was showing them (and us) that true leadership isn't about being served, but about serving others with genuine humility and care. He's telling them that following him means adopting this same posture of putting others' needs before our own pride and comfort. When life feels hard or we're tempted to hold ourselves above others, this verse invites us to remember that Jesus himself got down on his knees, and he asks us to do the same for one another.
