What does John 10:3 mean?

When Jesus describes himself as a shepherd, he's using an image his Jewish listeners would have recognized from their scriptures and daily life. Here, the gatekeeper represents those who recognize true spiritual authority and open the way for genuine leadership, while the sheep represent Jesus's followers. The beautiful part is that Jesus doesn't treat his followers as a faceless crowd, but as individuals he knows by name, calls out personally, and leads with intention. This suggests that whatever you're going through, you're not just one of millions to him, but someone he sees, knows, and actively guides.
