John 10:2
βBut one who enters in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.β
What does John 10:2 mean?
When Jesus describes the true shepherd entering through the door, he's pointing to something essential about spiritual leadership and authenticity. A shepherd who comes the right way, through proper authority and intention, cares for the flock rather than exploiting them. In contrast, Jesus had just mentioned thieves and robbers who climb in other ways, abandoning the sheep when danger comes. The "door" represents doing things the right way, with integrity and openness, rather than sneaking around with hidden motives. If you're genuinely called to care for others, spiritually or otherwise, your approach and character should reflect that calling. This is comforting if you're looking for trustworthy guidance, and challenging if you're reflecting on how you lead or influence those around you.
