What does John 10:14 mean?
Jesus uses the familiar image of a shepherd caring for sheep to describe his relationship with his followers. He's saying that this connection goes both ways, just like a real shepherd who knows each sheep in his flock and they recognize his voice. The word "good" here emphasizes his character, contrasting with the idea of a hired hand who might flee when danger comes. When Jesus says "my own," he means his people, and by extension, he means you if you trust him, suggesting that being known by Jesus and knowing him in return is at the heart of belonging to him.
